Seurasaari
Open-air museum and park Seurasaari was found in 1909 in order
to keep the rural Finnish architecture. Old farms, dwelling houses
and barns - all these the tourists can see in the museum. Ancient
wooden constructions help the tourists to learn the national traditions
of Finnish people. A lot of them are made of the rough-finished
beams. It should be emphasized that the museum contains more than
thirty ethnographically valuable houses and constructions from various
Finnish districts. The oldest museum building is the wooden church
from Karun (1868). Don't loose the opportunity to see this amazingly
beautiful coming to a point church and the church boat. All the
visitors of the museum can also get acquainted with the buildings
of Finnish National renascence movement of the 19th century.
All the exhibits and displays of Seurasaari are furnished with the
nameboards; the direction signs help the guests to orient in the
numerous museum paths. Seurasaari blocks were built in different
time (beginning from 1700 B.C.) and brought to the museum from various
corners of the country. In summer the guests of Helsinki have an
opportunity to take part in the concerts, holidays and folk celebrations,
the most popular of which is the St. John's day, organized in the
park. On the territory of the museum there is a summer restaurant,
so the tourists can enjoy the traditional cuisine of Finland without
even leaving the island. In summer all the visitors also have a
splendid possibility to swim and sunbathe as there is a beach. Museum
is open from the middle of May till the end of the autumn. It takes
the tourists twenty minutes to get to Seurasaari from the center
of Helsinki by bus. It should be said that island Seurasaari is
connected with the dry land by means of foot-bridge, so the tourists
can walk here all the year round. Take into account that you need
more than three hours to see all the corners of Seurasaari, creating
the atmosphere of the past centuries.
